Marie Tawk, born in Lebanon in 1963, lives and works in Byblos, near Beirut. Translator of over 45 novels, essays, screenplays and plays, including Kawabata's Les Belles endormies; Gérard de Nerval's Aurelia and Les Filles du feu; Samir Kassir's L'histoire de Beyrouth; Simone de Beauvoir's Les Mandarins; Mathias Enard's Zone and La Rue des voleurs.
Her short stories and articles have been published in several Arabic newspapers. Her short story Voiles sur l'asphalte was published as part of an anthology: Beyrouth Noir, in which writer Iman Humaydan presented fifteen writers featuring the Lebanese capital, against the backdrop of the civil war (1975-1990).  In 2024 Mary Tawk was a finalist, along with 3 other translators, for the Ibn Khaldoun Senghor Prize for the Translation of Literature and Human Sciences from Arabic into French and from French into Arabic, organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
