Khaled Osman is a literary translator from Arabic into French and an accomplished novelist. Born in Egypt and educated in France, he has played a pivotal role in bringing contemporary Arabic literature to Francophone audiences. His translations span a wide range of leading voices, including Naguib Mahfouz, Gamal Ghitani, Ahmad al-Aidy, Ahmad Aboukhnegar, Youssef Ziedan, and Nael Eltoukhy (Egypt); Sahar Khalifa (Palestine); Inaam Kachachi (Iraq); Ali al-Muqri (Yemen); Nihad Sirees and Samar Yazbek (Syria); Raja Alem (Saudi Arabia); Jokha al-Harthi (Oman); and Hanan el-Shaykh (Lebanon). His translation work has earned him multiple distinctions, most notably the Prix de l'Académie française for his French renderings of two novels by Naguib Mahfouz, as well as two further awards for his translation of Ghitani’s seminal The Book of Illuminations. In addition to his work as a translator, Osman is the author of two novels written in French—Le Caire à corps perdu (2011) and La colombe et le moineau (2016). Both were originally published by Vents d'ailleurs and have recently been reissued by Les Défricheurs.
