Literature Needs Space. We Keep It Open.
Literature is losing space at an increasing rate. In many newspapers, literary sections are shrinking or being merged, and sometimes disappearing altogether. Attention is focused on a small number of well-known authors, while so-called peripheral areas of literature, such as translations, independent publishing, voices from the Global South, essays and poetry, and debut works, are increasingly overlooked.
Literatur.Review is a conscious counter-model to this development. Our magazine creates a platform for works that would otherwise go unnoticed: international literature, political and aesthetic crossings of borders, and writing that transcends pure market logic. We publish multilingual content, provide context and treat literature as a cultural practice rather than a commodity.
This work is carried out by a small team that operates almost entirely on a voluntary basis. Authors, translators, editors, and publishers contribute their time, expertise, and commitment, often receiving little or no remuneration, driven by the belief that literary public discourse must be defended, particularly when under threat.
Your donation helps us to continue this work.
It enables us to offer fairer compensation, fund translations, maintain technical infrastructure and plan editorial projects. Above all, it helps us to preserve a space where literary diversity remains visible.
Literatur.Review is free to access, independent and ad-free. To keep it that way, we depend on your support.
Support literature that would otherwise have no platform once or monthly via one of our subscriptions. We would be delighted! Don't want to miss any more articles on Literatur.Review? Then sign up for our free newsletter!
