Zeilen der Zeit (Lines of Time)
What is truth - in wartime, in politics, in everyday life? In 1943, George Orwell left the BBC to become culture editor of the Tribune. Over the next few years, he not only wrote his masterpieces Animal Farm and 1984, but between 1943 and 1949 he also wrote regular columns in which he responded with lucidity and insight to the pressing issues of his time.
Translated into German for the first time, these texts reveal one of the twentieth century's most important intellectuals as a keen observer of his time. Uncompromising, humane and relevant, he wrote about progress and morality, conspiracy theories, social inequality and fascism. And the way Orwell analyzed political manipulation, media scaremongering or social division 80 years ago, appears today as a frighteningly topical commentary on the present.(Editor)
