Tiempo Muerto
It is the quiet season, tiempo muerto: the harvest has been brought in, the plantation workers have left and everyone is hoping that the new plantations will survive the drought. A mysterious disappearance is told from two perspectives: Racel, a domestic worker from Singapore, travels to her home island of Banwa to look for her mother, who disappeared after a typhoon. Her mother used to work in the mansion of the powerful Agalon family. At the same time, Lia, daughter of the Agalons, returns to Banwa - banished by her family because of rumors about her divorce and affair.
In their childhood, Racel and Lia were close, but social differences separated their paths. They meet again on Banwa, approach each other cautiously and search together for Racel's mother. In the process, they come across the violent history of the Agalon family, who have ruled the island for over 200 years. The search becomes a confrontation with origin, class and the desire for a self-determined life. In the end, both make radical decisions.
Two impressive portraits of women are combined with a documentary look at landscape, culture and society - a socio-critical panorama of Singapore, Manila and the Philippine province.
