Leila Aboulela is a Sudanese writer who lives in Scotland. Her recent novel River Spirit was a New York Times Best Historical Novel of the Year. It was described by the LA Review of Books as a ‘blazing historical epic of war, love and revolution.’ Despite the ongoing war, River Spirit was published in Arabic by the Sudanese publisher Dar al Musawarat. A Portuguese edition is due for publication by Harper Collins Brazil. Leila’s novel Minarett and her collection of short stories Anders Wo, Daheim were recently published in German.
