Safeta Obhodjaš (born 1951) grew up in Bosnia and Herzegovina near Sarajevo. It was in this city that she published her first literary works: radio plays, short stories, and novellas. It was the period following World War II, when the peoples living there believed they could find their democratic path through socialism. The author is a witness to the discrepancy between ideology and reality. Her Slavic heritage and Muslim roots placed her in a dual dilemma of belonging, which is reflected in her early works.
In 1992, she was driven from her homeland by Serbian nationalists. In Germany, she continued writing bilingually in German and Bosnian. As an author, she advocates for the integration of Muslim women and youth. Through her grassroots projects, she gathers material for her writing, which deals with life between cultures in Germany. Ultimately, she incorporated her experiences into the anthology Deutschland als Heimat? – Integrationsprozesse im Zusammenprall zwischen Hier und Dort (Germany as Home? – Integration Processes in the Clash Between Here and There).
