Miller's Girl
Left alone in an enchanted mansion by her wealthy parents who are constantly away on business, 18-year-old Cairo Sweet longs for an escape from her stuffy provincial life in Tennessee. The only refuge she finds is in literature, which can help to drown out the boredom. When she takes a course with English teacher Jonathan Miller at her high school, she sees a chance to finally turn the tide. Encouraged by her best friend Winnie, who herself is interested in sports teacher Boris Fillmore, Cairo seeks Miller's attention. He's impressed by her erudition. And he is even more astonished to discover his own early literary work with her, which he was never able to follow up with a second book. Conversations about the power of the written word and extracurricular activities lead to a taboo-breaking relationship that is shattered by a short story written by Cairo. (programmkino.de)
