Agus Sarjono

Biography

Agus R. Sarjono is primarily known as a poet, although he also writes short stories, novels, and especially essays and theatre play. He received the Mastera Literary Award from Malaysia (2012) and the Sunthorn Phu Award from Thailand (2013). A former editor of the literary magazine Horison (1997-2013), he has served as chairman of the Literary Committee of DKJ (Jakarta Arts Council) from 1998 to 2002, chairman of DKJ (2003-2006), and lecturer in the Theater Department of ISBI Bandung. As the Editor-in-Chief of the Jurnal Sajak (Journal of Poetry), he has been a visiting writer and scholar at various institutions, including IIAS Leiden University (2001), University of Bonn (2010 & 2012), Heinrich Böll Haus (2002—2003), Art & Culture Community, Finland (2006), and Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, Brandenburg (2014). He has participated in numerous international festivals from the Netherlands to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), from India to Vietnam. His latest poetry book, "Gestatten, mein Name ist Trübsinn," was published in Berlin (2015). His plays include "In the Name of Love" (Atas Nama Cinta), "McTheatre" (published in Indonesian, English, and German editions), "Happy Household" (Rumah Tangga Bahagia), and the collection of monologues "National Confession" (Curhat Nasional, 2021).
