Hamid Oqabi is a Yemeni poet, writer, visual artist, and director working across cinema and theatre. He has been based in France since 2001. In 2018, he founded the Arab European Forum for Cinema and Theatre in Paris, which—under his artistic direction—has since hosted more than 500 conferences, forums, and events in theatre, film, and literature, primarily in virtual formats, as well as around fifty in-person workshops and forums.
Oqabi has produced eight short films exploring poetic forms, alongside three feature-length works. In addition, he has curated ten visual arts exhibitions in France. His literary output comprises around thirty published titles in print and digital formats, including three poetry collections. He has also contributed as a screenwriter to several films released in cinemas.
