Hala Kawsarani

Biography

Hala Kawsarani is a Lebanese novelist. She earned a B.A in Political Science and an MA in Arabic Literature from the American University of Beirut. Her debut novel al-Ousbou‘ al-Akhir was published by Dar al-Saqi in Beirut in 2006, followed by Studio Beirut (Dar al-Saqi, 2008), Ali el-Amerkani (Dar al-Saqi, 2012) which won the 2013 Sharjah Book Fair Prize for Best Arabic Novel, Charisma (Beirut: Dar al-Saqi, 2014), the first biography of Gabrielle Chanel in the Arabic language in the form of the artistic book Gabrielle Chanel: Khuyutu Hayatiha (Hachette Antoine, 2017), and most recently Yawm Ashams (Hachette Antoine, 2022). In 2010 Hala was selected by the Hay Festival as one of the 39 most creative Arab writers under 39 years. She is a founding member of PEN Lebanon.
