Axel Timo Purr, editor of Literatur.Review, in conversation with Mia Tijam (Flowers for Thursday), Dr. Mary Jane Guazon Uy (The Book of Pedro Bautista), and Trixie Adviento Odiamar (Tabi, Apo, a bilingual English–Bikol children’s book). The talk was hosted by Kristian Sendon Cordero of Savage Mind: Arts, Books, Cinema in Naga City and took place at the Kamarin Art Gallery, part of the Savage Mind Cultural Center.
The discussion explores the authors’ works in depth, touching on colonial history and its echoes in the present, shifting gender identities from pre-colonial to modern times, the continuing armed struggle in the region, as well as Bicol’s culture, history, languages and its role within the diverse archipelago of Philippine languages.
